Killer Whales in Sitka, Alaska

It was an exciting day whale watching in Sitka, Alaska! We got to observe a pod of Killer Whales exploring Sitka Sound very close to town. You can even see Sitka in the background of this video as the pod passed by Sitka National Historical Park (AKA Totem Park).

Sitka and our surrounding areas are known to host both Southern and Northern Residents as well as Transient Pods. Typically we have a few sightings every month and sometimes more! Killer whales can come and go from an area in the blink of an eye as they are fast and incredibly stealthy as they stalk their prey.

We’ve observed the residents foraging individually in their hunt for salmon as well as the transients terrorizing local marine mammals. There are even local stories of observing Killer Whales taking on Brown Bears swimming between the islands!

Watching Killer Whales in Sitka Sound is an absolutely magical experience! While there’s no guarantee we’ll find them, they’ll only find us if we’re out there on the water! Join us for Whale Watching in Sitka, Alaska!
